Climate History

Teaching Climate History is about exploring climate change with Social Studies students, emphasizing critical inquiry into environmental change, human impact, and the role of society and governance in shaping land and resource use. The Climate History cards provide a tool to examine historical events through multiple lenses: social, ecological, political, cultural, and economic. Students engage in constructing narratives, analyzing causes and consequences, and considering Indigenous and marginalized perspectives. The main intended use of the cards is with a Human Timeline activity, although the Teacher guide outlines other games and activities for the 8.5" x 11" event placards or 3.5" x 2.5" cards (includes descriptions).
